What is frequency-specific microcurrent?
Frequency-specific microcurrent (FSM) is an energy technique used to assist in reducing swelling, repairing tissue and reducing pain throughout our body. FSM applies a mild, low-level electrical current to specific parts of the body. FSM uses very specific frequencies that work with electrical currents naturally occurring in the cells of your body. These applied currents encourage healing of the body and the reduction of pain through cell signaling pathways.
A frequency is the rate at which a sound wave or electronic pulse is produced. This measurement is registered in hertz (Hz). In using FSM to treat pain, it’s been found that various frequencies can be used to potentially reduce inflammation (swelling), repair tissue, and reduce pain and improve function.
A key outcome of FSM treatments is the increase in the production of ATP in injured tissues. FSM can increase ATP production by as much as five times in damaged tissues which can greatly assist in the recovery process. Depending on the condition, FSM treatment can also loosen or soften muscles, helping to relieve stiffness or pain.
What Conditions can be treated with FSM?:

What is Micro-current:
Microcurrent is a faint electric current that is so small it is measured in millionths of an amp. By comparison a TENS unit and most other electro-therapies produce milliamps, 1000 times greater. Your own cells generate a current in the microamp range and this is why you can’t feel it - the current is so low it doesn’t stimulate sensory nerves.
How does FSM work?
Frequency Specific Microcurrent works on the principle of Biologic Resonance. “The “resonance” occurs via vibrations or frequencies which may be likened to information signals being transferred in packages of light intra and inter cellularly” (Newearth, What is bio resonance)
Microcurrent frequencies seem to be able to resonate with the biologic tissue when the correct frequency is applied. Each cell type has an ideal resonant frequency. When your body experiences any type of injury, trauma, stress or increased inflammation, the normal resonant frequency of that tissue is altered.
The desired effect of FSM is to return the tissue back to its normal frequency. FSM uses various frequencies (often determined by the condition and tissue type) and these frequencies are transmitted through the body using Micro-currents. Microcurrent has been shown to increase ATP (energy) production in the cells of your body and in doing so, dramatically increases the tissue’s healing rate.
The almost immediate response to the correct microcurrent suggests that other mechanisms are involved as well. The exact effects or changes that result from microcurrent frequencies have not been proven because no biopsies have been done after microcurrent has been applied. However, the changes in the tissue are unmistakable; scars will often suddenly soften; trigger points often become less painful; swelling often drains within minutes when the “correct” frequency is applied. Changes are often long lasting and in many cases permanent.

RISKS / BENEFITS
Are there any situations in which frequency-specific microcurrent should not be used?
People who should not receive FSM treatment include those who have pacemakers, implanted pumps, or uncontrolled seizures, and women who are pregnant.
In addition, certain frequencies should not be used in cases of acute infection, new scar tissue (within 6 weeks), and acute fractures. Please discuss any of these concerns with your provider during consultation so that appropriate recommendations can be made.
Is frequency-specific microcurrent painful?
Treatment with FSM is non-invasive and painless. The currents used in FSM are so low that the patient often does not feel them. During FSM treatment, patients may notice certain effects, including warmth and a softening of affected tissues.
What are the risks and side effects of frequency-specific microcurrent treatment?
There are no known risks to either the patient or the practitioner as long as the FSM unit is used correctly. Side effects are rate but may occur in some patients. They are minimal, transient and can often be eliminated with proper hydration. The side effects are related to a detoxification reaction brought about by increased cellular metabolism and the removal of long-stored waste products, similar to the side effects of massage.
The side effects usually start 90 minutes after a treatment and may last for 4 to 24 hours, and can include:
